The Tokyo Symphony Orchestra (Chairman: Tetsuya Okazaki) has extended the term of Lorenzo Viotti, who has served as Music Director since fiscal year 2026, through March 2034.

Viotti’s debut with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra was at the Tokyo Opera City Series in July. In 2024, ten years after their first collaboration, he was welcomed as the orchestra’s music director. Viotti comes to Japan up to four times each season, spending a total of up to eight weeks conducting the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra.

Yoshitaka Hirooka, Managing Director of the Tokyo Symphony comments,
“By working together over the long term, we aim to establish a strong and lasting musical foundation, while further enriching the orchestra’s artistic expression through greater breadth and diversity of sound. At the same time, we feel a profound sense of responsibility in sharing with Maestro Viotti an important period in his development as an artist, as he moves from his late thirties into his early forties. Over the next eight years, we are committed to nurturing the partnership between Viotti and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra into a distinctive musical brand of which we can be proud on the world stage.”
