Ross Jamie Collins
Ross Jamie Collins, a British conductor of Finnish descent, will make his debut with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra in the 2024/25 season. He made his Japanese debut conducting the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra at the Musashino Civic Cultural Hall in February 2025.

From 2023 to 2024, he served as the Dudamel Fellow with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Conductor-in-Residence with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. In the summer of 2024, he was selected as one of two conducting fellows at the Tanglewood Music Center.
He has previously debuted with the Philharmonia Orchestra and San Francisco Symphony, and served as an assistant to Esa-Pekka Salonen on the San Francisco Symphony’s tour. Collins was a member of the conducting staff of the San Francisco Symphony and part of the Philharmonia Orchestra’s Emerging Artists program.
He was in the inaugural class of Salonen Fellows in the conducting program at the Colburn School in Los Angeles. Before moving to Los Angeles in the fall of 2019 to study with Esa-Pekka Salonen, he studied with Jorma Panula at the Panula Academy in Finland and was a prizewinner at the 7th Jorma Panula International Conducting Competition. He has participated in numerous international conducting masterclasses with the support of a scholarship from the Finnish Cultural Foundation.
He has worked with Sir Andrew Davis, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Ed de Waart, James Conlon, Ludovic Morlot, Peter Oundjian, Peter Sellars, Yuja Wang, and Ray Chen, among others.
A cellist, pianist, and baritone, Collins founded his own orchestra, ‘Symphony Orchestra ROSSO,’ in 2017 and first conducted an orchestra at the age of 15.
