1951年（昭和26年）大阪府出身。大阪市立生野工高を卒業後、旧西独マインツ大学に留学。80年（株）インターナショナルツアーズ（現・エイチ・アイ・エス）を設立。格安航空券を柱に急成長を遂げる。96年、オーストラリア・ゴールドコーストにホテルをオープン、会長に就任。98年、国内第4番目の航空会社・スカイマークエアラインズ（株）（現・スカイマーク（株））を就航させ、話題となる。99年、協立証券（現・エイチ・エス証券（株））の代表取締役に就任。09年株式会社エイチ・アイ・エスの代表取締役会長に就任。2010年ハウステンボス株式会社の代表取締役社長に就任。そのほか、澤田ホールディングス株式会社代表取締役社長、モンゴルAG銀行（現ハーン銀行）代表取締役会長、一般社団法人日本経済団体連合会幹事、一般社団法人アジア経営者連合会理事長などを務める。
2012年9月1日付で、公益財団法人東京交響楽団理事長に就任した。

Hideo Sawada, Chairman of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra since September 2012, is currently Chairman of H.I.S. Co., Ltd., a leading travel company offering low-fare flights. He is also President of Huis Ten Bosch Co, Ltd.; President of Sawada Holdings Co., Ltd.; Chairman of H.S. Securities Co. Ltd. and Chairman of the Khan Bank in Mongolia. With the appointment of Mr. Sawada we aim to raise the T.S.O. to world-class level.
Born in Osaka, 1951, Mr. Sawada went abroad to study at the University of Mainz in Germany after graduating from high school. In 1980 Mr. Sawada established H.I.S. Co., Ltd., formerly International Tours Co., Ltd., and opened the Watermark Hotel in Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, in 1996. He established the fourth Japanese airline company, Skymark Airlines Co., Ltd., with which he entered the Japanese domestic airline industry in 1998. Mr. Sawada serves as Secretary of Nippon Keidanren (Japan Business Federation) and Chairman of the Asia Leaders Association.
